| Lecture: Global Housing Situation
Speaker: Fr. Eduardo Jorge Anzorena, SJ SELAVIP Eduardo Jorge Anzorena, a priest of the Society of Jesus, has a PhD in Architecture from the University of Tokyo. He received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for International Understanding in 1994. Prior to his retirement, he taught Architecture and Philosophy of Development at Sofia University in Tokyo, six months of every year. The remaining six months he literally traveled around the world visiting low-income housing. His travels to Asia were so extensive that there is hardly a project, no matter how small, that he has not visited. He still continues to give occasional seminars and lectures and despite his retirement, he continues to travel the world visiting projects and sharing stories about housing the poor. Fr. Jorge continues to publish the newsletter, SELAVIP, which chronicles his travels and stories of the activities of his countless friends in the world of housing. He also recently came out with a new book, “Housing the Poor in the New Millennium.” |

Lecture: National Housing Situationer Speaker: EnP. Jeanette D.C. Elevado-Cruz HUDCC EnP. Jeanette Elevado-Cruz received her bachelor’s degree in Community Development from the University of the Philippines in 1983. In 1988, she finished her post-graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the School of Urban and Regional Planning in UP Diliman. She is presently Director II for Special Concerns Group of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC). She is also the current president of the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP). |

Lecture: Legal Mandates and Housing Policy Framework Speaker: Atty. Jose Maria Mendoza Atty. Joey Mendoza finished his bachelor’s degree in Law from the Ateneo Law School in 1988. He has been involved in the development field all his professional life. He has worked with both non-government organizations and government offices and has functioned in different capacities as legal professional, development manager, and consultant. |

Lecture: Shelter Planning for Informal Settlements Speaker: Dr. Zenaida A. Manalo UP-SURP Dr. Manalo received her bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of the Philippines in 1968 and her master’s degree in Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1971. She finished her PhD in Urban and Regional Planning at UP SURP in 1989. She has held many positions related to economics, policy formation and planning in her work with local and international agencies, public and private offices and the academe. At present, she is a full-time professor and the Director for Research and Publications at the UP School of Urban and Regional Planning. |

Lecture: Gender Perspective in Social Housing Speaker: Ms. Felomina H. Duka DAMPA, Inc. Ms. Femie Duka received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in 1991. She has since been involved with non-government organizations working with urban poor communities such as COPE, UPA, CO-TRAIN and PLCPD. She is currently the Secretary General of DAMPA (Damayan ng Maralitang Pilipinong Api), a non-stock, non-profit NGO that assists the urban poor against illegal demolitions and evictions. |

Lecture: Alternative Building Technologies Speaker: Engr. Victor Balba Engr. Vic Balba graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the East. He has been with the National Housing Authority for thirteen years. He has served as Division Manager for Buildings and Grounds Maintenance in 1991 and as Department Manager of the General Services Department in 1994. He is currently the Department Manager of two offices — the Housing Technology and Development Office and the Project Operations Support Services Office. |

Lecture: Strategies in Community Organizing for Social Housing Speaker: Ms. Jocelyn Vicente-Angeles COPE Ms. Jo Angeles graduated with a degree in AB Sociology from the Bicol University and is currently a candidate for a past-graduate degree in Sociology at the Asian Social Institute in Manila. She has worked for COPE (Community Organizations of the Philippines Enterprise) since 1985 |

Lecture: Participatory Processes in Community Development Speaker: Arch. Beryl F. Baybay Arch. Beryl Baybay received her bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Sto.Tomas in 1998. She also has a Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning which earned at UP SURP. She is currently one of the program coordinators for TAO-Pilipinas’ Education and Training Program. |
