Project Name: Structures Mapping of DSOP communities affected by the Pasig River Rehabilitation Project
yp internshipDate: September 2005
Location: Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila City
End client: Dike Side Organization of Punta
Volunteers: PUP-CAFA (Polytechnic University of the Philippines – College of Architecture & Fine Arts), UST-CE (University of Sto. Tomas – Department of Civil Engineering), and UP-TFA (University of the Philippines – Task Force Arki)
Funding: SELAVIP (Latin American, African and Asian Low-Income Housing Service); MISEREOR (German Catholic Bishops’ Organization for Development Cooperation)
Project Context and Objectives:
When the peoples organization DSOP requested for assistance in mapping the structures affected by the Pasig River 10-meter Environmental Protection Area (EPA) within their area in Punta, Sta. Ana, three groups of students volunteered to carry out the task. Students from PUP-CAFA, UST-CE, and UP-TFA were able to map out around 900 structures in 10 barangays in September 2005. This undertaking was part of the alternative on-site resettlement proposals which TAO has been developing with DSOP. Orientation lectures on the project, ocular visits and initial consultation with community leaders were conducted prior to the student-volunteers’ structures mapping.
Project Outputs:
The structures map and survey in 10 barangays produced by the student-volunteers were used by TAO-Pilipinas to formulate a set of plans that proposed an on-site development of the area. This was eventually presented by DSOP to PRRC (Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission) for security of tenure negotiations.
